How to Age Well: Why Protecting Your Bones and Building Muscle After Menopause Could Change How You Live at 80 | HOLLY BAXTER | JULIE GIBSON CLARK | TANYA SCHROBILGEN | Ep. 104

A Woman’s Guide to Aging Well: Why Staying Strong Matters More Than Living Longer
Two women can reach 80 and live completely different lives.
One might still be playing pickleball, traveling, and enjoying an active life. The other might struggle with everyday movement and need help with basic tasks.
So what's making the difference?
That's one of the questions explored on *The Superhuman Blueprint Podcast*, where host Drew Griesel sits down with registered dietitian and fitness educator Holly Baxter, women's health specialist Tanya Schrobilgen, and longevity expert Julie Gibson Clark.
Together, they discuss what it really takes to stay strong, healthy, and independent as women age.
How to Age Well Starts With Protecting Your Strength
One of the biggest misconceptions about aging is that getting weaker and becoming frail are just things we have to accept.
Our bodies naturally change with age, but that doesn't mean there's nothing we can do about it.
Muscle loss and aging go hand in hand. As we get older, it's harder to maintain muscle, especially if we're not doing regular resistance training.
But muscle isn't just about looking fit.
It's what helps us move, stay balanced, and handle everyday tasks without needing someone else's help.
For women, estrogen and bone health also play an important role. As estrogen levels decline during menopause, bones can become weaker, increasing the risk of fractures.
The Mistake Women Often Make
A lot of women think staying healthy means eating less, doing more cardio, and trying to stay as lean as possible.
Holly challenges that approach.
When you're not eating enough, your body may struggle to build muscle, recover from exercise, and maintain energy.
And pushing harder in the gym isn't always the answer either.
As Holly explains, you don't necessarily have to lift extremely heavy weights to build muscle. Lighter weights can still be effective when you're training with enough effort.
It's not about exhausting yourself every time you exercise. It's about finding something you can stick with.
What You Can Start Doing Today
You don't need a complicated routine to take better care of your future health.
Start by making resistance training a regular part of your week. Eat enough to support your activity, and don't treat sleep and recovery as afterthoughts.
Getting enough protein intake for women is important, but so are carbohydrates, healthy fats, and overall nutrition.
And remember, you don't have to change everything overnight.
As Julie points out, the goal isn't just to reach 100. It's to feel strong, capable, and able to enjoy life when you get there.
Learning how to age well isn't about fighting every sign of aging. It's about building habits today that give you a better chance of staying independent tomorrow.
