Nervous System Regulation Is the Missing Piece Most Wellness Plans Ignore
You can eat clean, exercise every day, and still feel like your body is falling apart.
That was the shocking reality Danielle Pashko faced after years working in functional medicine. She was doing everything “right,” yet her body kept sending warning signs she could not explain. What she discovered changed the way she thinks about healing forever.
On this episode of The Superhuman Blueprint Podcast, host Drew Griesel sits down with wellness practitioner Danielle Pashko to explore chronic illness, stress, healing, and the deeper role of nervous system regulation in long-term health.
Danielle’s story began with thyroid cancer, then later Lyme disease and long COVID. But the biggest lesson was not about supplements or biohacking. It was about how chronic stress can quietly keep the body stuck in survival mode for years.
She explains how the body moves between fight-or-flight and rest-and-digest states. When stress becomes constant, the body struggles to recover. Hormones shift, inflammation rises, and symptoms often worsen.
What makes this conversation different is where her healing journey eventually led.
After years of treatments, Danielle started exploring practices connected to the mind body connection. She used prayer, visualization, Tai Chi, Qi Gong, and eventually wing chun kung fu to rebuild her brain and body from the inside out.
Why Nervous System Regulation Changes Everything
Many people think healing is only physical. Danielle argues that the nervous system often becomes the hidden bottleneck.
When the body stays trapped in stress mode, recovery becomes harder. Elevated cortisol and stress hormones can impact sleep, digestion, focus, and inflammation.
What surprised Drew most was how martial arts became part of Danielle’s recovery. Through slow drills, movement, and partner exercises, she unknowingly built a form of neurological rehabilitation.
Practices like proprioception training, breathwork, and movement-based focus helped improve clarity, reflexes, and balance. Danielle describes it as “brain rehab” for her long COVID and Lyme symptoms.
The episode also highlights the role of neuroplasticity exercises and visualization techniques for healing. Danielle explains that visualizing herself as strong before she physically felt strong helped reshape her mindset and confidence.
For leaders, coaches, and high performers, the takeaway is simple. You cannot outwork a dysregulated nervous system.
The answer is not always more discipline. Sometimes it is slowing down enough to let the body feel safe again.
Danielle’s journey is a reminder that healing is rarely linear. Real recovery often requires a mix of physical support, emotional resilience, movement, and hope.
If you want a deeper look into nervous system healing, chronic illness recovery, and the surprising overlap between martial arts and wellness, this episode is worth listening to in full.
